Amazing Weekend

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Monday Aug 30, 2010 Under Daily Living, Family, MBA, Society & Culture

I wondered how I managed to stay awake the whole day of my Saturday class last August 28. I had my night shift work schedule and after my night Friday work, I went home, took an hour doze, and went to class. I was few minutes late, our professor was already inside the the classroom scrutinizing the case analysis presented by one of my classmates. It wasjust after the case presentation that our professor called our names for the attendance checking. I still made it :-) amazing! God is good! I did not feel any sleepy that day, I even did not yawn. Was it because I dozed with a comfortable bed mattress, or was it because I believed I will not be sleepy because of class?

Amazing weekend, read our research and case analysis (though not finished). Spent the time with my family, had my respite, slept and surfed. For me, that was amazing. Even the time I went back in Manila was amazing, I was standing for two and half hours in the bus, all seats were taken because of holiday and vacation. Brrrrr, amazingly, I stood still. Looking forward to another amazing weekend this week :-)

It’s Weekend!!

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Saturday Jul 24, 2010 Under Daily Living, MBA, jobs

Saturday! Weekend! I am supposed to attend my MBA class today but because I have an important commitment, I have no way but to miss again a day of my class. Wok up some early today, I will be going home, but before that, I went to an atm machine to get money, it’s our payday today! Unfortunately, to my dismay, no amount was added in my account, sad. I had no money left but P140 and I will be going home! Sighed, fortunately, I saved 5 and 10 coins and I got wee from it. I had nothing to bring home, my pasalubong, will buy there instead, or maybe someday i’ll try the wholesale, why not?

I texted my friends and officemates about what happened in our payroll, they initially did not have an idea, and then eventually, someone told me that our bank is undergoing a two day maintenance that started yesterday. Too bad of them, according also, we can transact from any bank but not from them during these days.. Tsk tsk… Hope thay properly informed every one about this.

ANyway, it’s weekend, and the bank should not ruin my day. I will be enjoying my time at home :-)

Will you tell the truth? What will you do if you are in a situation wherein you need to think whether to tell what really happened, whether to divulge the truth or not?

I don’t want lies, especially to a work, I’m an accountant, some do auditing some are being audited, and I am part of the latter. It was tough when you are under audit, auditors keep on asking so many documents, interviewing you of the transactions happened, why this is like this and that, they will keep on asking and asking until they are satisfied and you have justified the transaction. That is why, it is hard not to tell the truth and hide something, it will be very hard to undisclose something that you know will affect you in future. I am not good at that though, but others are.

In our Financial Management 1 subject, we have given a case relative to this. It is about Cindy Putman who had his first job at Wheeler Co. as an accounting clerk. Being new in the company, you have of course need to do the best and show the hardwork. She found out that the bank erroneously recorded a deposit Wheeler Co. made, an amount of $24,245 was recorded as $42,245 resulting to a $18,000 increase in cash. She told this to Mr. Wheeler, the owner of the company and advised her that she had no right of correcting the bank’s error, they will soon find it, meantime, Mr. Wheeler told Cindy to record it as a debit in cash and credit in retained earnings and reverse once the bank discovers the mistake, he told her to keep quiet and share the fortune. She obeyed him, thinking one day, the bank will really see the error. And one day she saw that she had an additional $500 on her paycheck, thought it was a bonus from a hardwork she showed. After two years, a tax audit was conducted by the Internal Revenue System or IRS and found out the increase in revenue. Being unable to explain the reason of the increase in retained earnings, the IRS charged the company a tax evasion. Mr. Wheeler told the tax agent that Cindy was the sole responsible and rarely brought him the issue, and the time the transaction happened, Cindy had little experience. In a private conversation, Mr. Wheeler impliedly told Cindy not to tell the truth, and that they will get off the hook. He even told her that the mere accepting the $500 he gave to her will surely put her in jail. Cindy was shocked, she expected some loyalty from him, she wasn’t even aware that the amount given to her was a fee for keeping quiet.

What would you do if you are in Cindy’s situation? The company was charged a tax evasion, and if Cindy will tell the truth, this might be changed, a penalty will do :-)

That is the case we need to analyze, and being an honest person, young and hardworking, I want to tell the truth to the auditor. :-) (Bahala na si Mr. Wheeler hehehe).

The Reality

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Wednesday Jul 21, 2010 Under Daily Living, Female Topic, Life, MBA, Society & Culture

Time to unwind, time to relax, time to spend my wee hour earning (this is secret hehehe), I need to earn for my MBA, and hopefully I can get my target by mid-September (anyways, two months remaining, I am thinking positively). OMG, I hardly notice this, perhaps because I was so busy taking steps in achieving my plans and dreams, I hardly notice that I am already in my late teens *ngek* as if!, in my late twenty’s, I cannot feel that I am that though, I still feel the childish feeling in me, young and imature, imature yet mature (seems baffling isn’t it). I don’t need to use prototype 37c, I have this young feeling deep within :-)

However, though I feel those within, I must face the reality that it’s time to be serious, it’s time to preponderate see if things are well-organized. Will do this, soon….

Disturbed

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Monday May 31, 2010 Under Daily Living, Family, MBA

I was answering our HBO final exam when friends of my mother came in. Oh no, I was racking my head, concentrating on the exam when they arrived. This made me hard to think anymore, too bad :-( They chatted too loud, laughed loud that I was really unable to answer the rest of the question, bad bad bad. Oh well. I noticed that one of inay’s friend used treatment for eczema, she used to have that, and now I noticed that hers was gone. Good for her! :-)

As I was disturbed, I discontinued answering the questions until this time at 8pm, luckily, I was able to finish it, we have to answer and submit it on May 31st only. Good luck to all of us classmates, i can feel that we will pass :-)

One Trisem Over

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Saturday May 22, 2010 Under Daily Living, MBA

Since I have this page on time, yet updated on a sunday, i will narate it using past tense.

May 22 was the last day of one trisem, it was also our Finals. We had not taken the exam in HBO yet because there were four groups who reported, the final exam as according to our professor Albert dela Cruz will be sent to us through email.

Our next subject after 4 hours in HBO was Decision Science, our finals, we only have one item to answer. It was facile our professor gave the answers however we had to complete the process. And also, the night before that, I tediously programed the formula so I won’t be having difficulty calculating the answers, luckily, the answers computed by the excel were correct.

Finally was Marketing. We had our exam, comprehensive exam after the presentation of Liz Claiborne’s case analysis, there were two who presented. Afterwhich was the time to answer the five questionnaires of Markting. Hmmm, how was it? All I can say is that I hope I pass, I hope we all pass.

Being a student was fun, since this was our last day, we took plenty pictures, seemingly happy as if all is over. This is what I love being a student or going anywhere, I got to meet many people and befriend them. But the sad thing is, I don’t know some of the names of my classmates yet. But I personally would like to thank them all for being part of my student life, hope to see them all again! I will miss you!

Yes, It’s Finals!!

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Wednesday May 19, 2010 Under Daily Living, Life, MBA

Yes it is! Finally after three months of spending my Saturday time at school, finally trisem is over on May 22, it will be our final day, and our final examination, hope i’ll pass! Hope we all could pass the exam and be able to enrol again the next sem.

Time really wanes so fast, we barely notice that almost half a year is over, and so when “ber” months starts, time runs faster as if chasing for something. It means that we owe to give our love and care to everyone around us, especially with our families, who knows, in a minute or two, our time will come to an end, hard to accept but it is the reality. So always make the most out of it.

Going back to our finals, the 39 students from our class will soon end the agony or the toils of making it to a sem in taking a masteral degree. We all realized that it is not facile to study again, especially if you are working. We had and have a hard time balancing our time between work and studies, between gimmick and studies. I had to set aside some events, I missed out two or three because of my saturday class. You really need to set priorities should you decide to go back to school again, preponderate first things first. Taking up MBA is my priority next to my work as of now, this resulted me and obliged me not to attend to some of my friends special moments, sad and they understood me. :-)

I have yet to finish it in one year, it’s not that long, I know I can make it. I will be having my class on weekdays next sem, try another schedule again, I had saturday class, and it was hard, so let me have weekdays, MWF, 6:30 to 9:00pm, 3.5 hours in a day compared to more than ten hours during Saturdays.

Goodluck my classmate!!

Liz Claiborne’s Marketing Case Presentation

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Saturday May 15, 2010 Under Daily Living, MBA

May I say we are unfortunate to pick #2 to present the Liz Claiborne’s case analysis? On the other hand, being such will help us delve and discuss with our group the case analysis. It’s not only that, we are required to present the case written in manila paper, not with powerpoint. Two from our group insisted to write and I am one. I effortly wrote from ACA to Plan of Action in 5 manila paper.

I Draw Again, Because of Puyat…

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Sunday May 9, 2010 Under Daily Living, MBA

To kill the sleepy hours I felt during my class on Marketing, I drew few people of the class. It was again the time that I used my talent jejeje. So hard to become so attentive no matter how I tried, reporters were discussing about the social responsibility and ethics and etc, but still my eyes could not endure but closed, yet I need to stay awake otherwise I might be reprimanded.

Here are the photos of what I had, guess who they are;

Fortunately, because one of our groupmates was absent.

Principles of Marketing

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Friday Mar 26, 2010 Under Business, Daily Living, MBA

It was almost six weeks that I have been looking for a Marketing Principles textbook by Kotler and Armstrong here in MOA National Bookstore, yet and unfortunately, they have no stock until now since I asked about a month ago. I just am wondering if they sell textbooks with incomplete stocks or no stock at all. To think, the mentioned store is one of the biggest bookstores here in the country.

That’s how I look for not finding a textbook in that bookstore. I even asked the saleslady if they can check online whether their other braches have stock of that book, to my amazement, according to the lady, they cannot see the stock or the inventory of other branches. A big oh no. I think they should develop a centralized site where they will be able to see the stocks available in different branches so they can suggest where to go right? Like in US :-(

Hmmm, my semester is almost over, yet I have no copy yet. I should have found one, it is one of the comprehensive exams.

Emote…

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Saturday Mar 13, 2010 Under Daily Living, MBA

I really was sleepless this week, i had to settle sales and use tax issue and avert legal recourse. I even had three different shifts in a week, I was on a night shift schedule last Monday, went mid-shift on Tuesday (I went home two o’clock in the morning and then had my regular shift on Wednesday - 9am but extend until 1am of the next day Thursday. It was not a normal thing for me, had to sacrifice having less sleep to make sure everything was well taken care off. Honestly, I never have enough rest and sleep for almost a month now. After our closing schedule last month where we had it night, I had to go home almost daily in Quezon province for my lola’s wake, and then those three different shifts in three days came, and then the rest were also tiring days. But I have no regrets, my efforts are appreciated by my mentor in Utah, she even told me that she was singing praises about me over there in Utah for all the hardwork i am doing, i thanked her for doing such, she told me, I worth the recognition! yeah, yeah, thanks a lot for the appreciation!

I am now sitting in the floor with my housemates, watching “I Love You Goodbye” by Angelica Panganibanm Derek Ramsey and Gabby Concepcion. I should have my sleep now this time, 9:40 pm of Saturday evening, rest to recuperate, yet I am here now, updating my blog while watching movie, emoting with some stuff that happened to me those past weeks.

I arrived here in the house at 8pm, that was after my mba class….Hahem, thanks to Cobra energy drink for keeping me awake again! Admittedly, going back to school is a combination of hardship and excitement, it is as if you are only a new college student. I had a hard time going back to studying mode, I can only review my notes every Friday night, hardly find time because of my work…. Today’s discussions were tough, HBO was okay, with some jokes from Mr. Albert dela Cruz, but then Decision Science was really tougher doh really!!! I racked my mind hard to understand simplex linear method programming…And nuh…(sniff) we have an assignment regarding our lesson today, i just hope I can do it perfectly!!! I need a mathematician or an engineer to teach me :-) anybody there???

I am thinking if I have to post what happened to our Marketing subject, it was bad! I think I don’t have to disclose it here, everyone in the room was enough to witness what happened today and we hope it could not happen again. As Dra. Esmeria told us during our first meeting, “everything is welcome, as long as it is done in a professional way”… I need to be prepared for the report assigned to me, “Product Development”, and I hope the positive outcome.

Another weekend here in Pasay, did not go home in Tiaong Quezon and decided to just have my respite here, sleep sleep sleep, do valet and watch the last Pyro Musical Competition in Mall of Asia with USA and Philippines as the performers, unfortunately, i have no camera with me to capture the fireworks..

Emote mode…Looking forward to a more challenging days next week and closing week is getting nearer… Thanks for everything our Creator!!!

Till then,

My New DVD Writer

Posted by Dhina Lieva on Tuesday Feb 16, 2010 Under Daily Living, MBA

I badly needed to watch A Beatiful Mind movie by John Nash. We were given assignment by our Decision Science professor and answer these questions;

1) What factors contributed to the development of John Nash’s theory?

2) How did the life of John Nash inspired you as an MBA student?

During that time when he mentioned that we need to watch that movie and have a movie review, I was thinking how will I answer those questions, I have no DVD player in my boarding house, my netbook has no player? I have an officemate who has a portable DVD, she won it during our PACE Christmas party, I was planning to borrow it from her, but the bashful side of me dominated me, so I was not able to tell her about it.

After office of Monday noon, my feet forced me to look into computer stores and gadgets to look for a DVD player to be attached in my netbook. I went first to Octagon, my plan really was to inquire only, I asked the saleslady if they have a DVD player the one used to attach in a netbook, she replied “Ah DVD writer”, I asked again, are they the same, player and writer? :-) I did not know that! They have a DVD writer worth P2900, their cheapest. I told them I just inquired and will come back the other day - that was in Octagon.

Then I passed by Silicon and decided to enter and checked out theirs. Their cheapest is P2800 with free Nero burner. I thought once whether to buy it or not, and my assignment popped out of my mind, that made me decide to buy the Samsung Slim External DVD Writer.

Now I can watch and do a movie review, now I can answer my assignment. Now I have something to use watching when I am bored and don’t feel like watching TV… now… now… :-P

(Hmmm, I think Samsung should commend me for writing this, I alid the Samsung Corby phone’s review) :-)

Till then,
